Aintree 200 Meeting 2018

is sponsored by

Hawthorne Park has hosted several slotcar events over the last few years, and the Aintree 200 is one that uniquely belongs to our club.  This is our 6th annual tribute to Aintree Motor Racing circuit with the "Aintree 200". Open to just two classes of cars for 2018, GT & Sportscars from 1955 to 1962 and F1 from 1961 to 1965 (as defined by the CSCRA*) the aim is to recreate the competition and atmosphere of racing at Aintree during the late '50s early '60s in a relaxed, social setting.

Held over two days, this year saw us again open our doors to the "Open Frame motor & Steering" slotcars  that some members and visitors raced in their youth. Saturday was given over to practice and 4 classes of F1 cars. Sunday was raceday for the 'classic' cars using more modern running gear.

The number of entrants this year was slightly down compared to previous meetings but the quality of the cars was no less.

All the classes gave us some great close racing  and was very competitive but the results were eventually decided in good spirit.

A thoroughly entertaining weekend, apparently enjoyed by all present. We eagerly look forward once again to next year's nostalgia filled weekend.
